Topi Hat

Topi Pattern: Topi, from Knitty, Summer 2006

Yarn: Peace Fleece worsted in Shaba Green

Needles: bamboo DPNs & Denise Interchangeable circulars (7US)

Notes:  I really enjoyed knitting this, and love how it turned out. As my friends know, I am not afraid of wearing a little color, and the bright green makes me smile when I see it. I am reluctantly over the newsboy trend, and this hat fills in the niche for a knitted, brimmed hat perfectly. I have some Pakucho Organic Cotton in an olive green color (‘Avocado’) that would make a perfect little army-style hat, and might give it a go as a quickie project if/when I get bored with current WIPs.

I followed the pattern as written, and the hat fits me quite well. It actually fit a little better before I blocked it, but so it goes. Although it looks like the brim comes right down over my eyes in this photo, I promise that I can see just fine. I opted to try the crochet cast on method, and found it much easier to work than wrangling DPNs with so few stitches. Wish I had known the method when I started that pinwheel blanket! I really like the look of the slip stitch rib cuff (does a hat have a cuff?) better than K1P1 ribbing (as on the newsboy), and the short row brim is a clever idea. With this experience under my belt, I am inching toward trying the short row hat from The Winter 2005 Interweave Knits. All in all, a funky, fun hat that I would recommend to everyone.

The hat looks good but I can't believe you put it on your head in this heat!

Your Topi look fabulous! I'm putting together a gallery for my pattern designs, I'd love to include this if you'd like!
